Dr. Egan Featured in South Bay Magazine
We’re proud to share that Kristin Egan, MD—dual board-certified in Otolaryngology (ENT) and Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery—was featured in South Bay Magazine for her leadership in minimally invasive facial rejuvenation. With a patient-first, evidence-based approach, Dr. Egan brings a thoughtful perspective to aging concerns of the face and neck, prioritizing natural-looking refinement with efficient recovery.
What Is a Laser-Assisted Facelift for the Jowls and Neck?
Often called a “laser facelift,” this minimally invasive procedure uses FDA-cleared laser energy beneath the skin to reduce small pockets of fat (such as under the chin and along the jowls) and to stimulate collagen for firmer, smoother contours. It is performed in-office under local anesthesia through tiny entry points—no general anesthesia is required.
Who It’s For
Early to moderate fullness under the chin (submental fat) and along the jawline
Mild to moderate skin laxity of the lower face and neck
Patients seeking an in-office, minimally invasive option with shorter downtime
People who are not yet ready for or do not need a surgical facelift or neck lift
How the Procedure Works
- 1
Comfort: Local (tumescent) anesthetic numbs the treatment area.
- 2
Tiny entry points: A fine laser fiber is introduced under the skin.
- 3
Targeted energy: Laser heat helps liquefy small fat deposits and contracts the surrounding tissues.
- 4
Collagen remodeling: Controlled heat signals your body to produce new collagen over time, improving firmness.
- 5
Refinement: A small cannula is used to gently remove released fat and contour the jawline and neck.
Benefits at a Glance
In-office treatment with local anesthesia
Tiny entry points and minimal scarring
Contours the jawline and reduces a double chin
Helps tighten lax skin by stimulating collagen
Typically faster recovery than traditional surgery
Recovery and Results
Most patients experience swelling and bruising for several days and can return to many normal activities within a few days, depending on individual healing. A light compression garment under the chin is often recommended for a short period to support contour. Early improvements are seen within 1–2 weeks, with continued tightening and refinement over the next 3–6 months as collagen remodels. Results vary based on skin quality, anatomy, and adherence to aftercare.
Is Laser-Assisted Facelift Right for Me?
Best for mild to moderate laxity and localized fat under the chin and along the jowls
Not a replacement for a full facelift or neck lift in cases of advanced skin laxity or prominent banding
Can be combined with complementary treatments (e.g., injectables, resurfacing) for comprehensive rejuvenation
A personalized evaluation will help determine if this approach aligns with your goals
Safety and Considerations
Common, temporary effects: swelling, bruising, numbness, and firmness under the skin
Less common risks: contour irregularity, infection, burns, or nerve irritation
Careful patient selection and experienced technique help minimize risks
Dr. Egan will review your medical history, medications, and aftercare to support a smooth recovery
